Awakening
The Awakening is a profound process of spiritual re-integration where a Luman begins to remember the "lives between lives" and the higher dimensions of Manam. This transition grants them access to extraordinary powers, including the ability to transit between planes and communicate with the planet's first children.
The Path to Awakening
Awakening is not guaranteed for every Luman but is a potential inherent in their ancestry.
- The Mechanic: As a Luman levels up, they have an increasing chance to awaken (starting at a 10% chance at levels 1–4 and reaching 30% at level 17+). The DM tracks these successful "Level Up" rolls, slowly revealing information and experiences until the player is fully aware of their awakened state.
- The Siri Exception: The Siri subrace has the highest potential for Awakening; nearly all Siri mature into this state during their "walking" life.
The Lumanari Council and Multidimensional Powers
Upon awakening, a Luman typically discovers they are already a member of the Lumanari Council. This collective of spirits acts as "World Teachers" and provides a constant stream of wisdom.
- Guidance and Dreaming: Awakened Lumans can ask the Council for guidance before sleep and receive answers upon waking. This occurs within the Astral Dimension, where collective thoughts and manifestations gather. Through this "slumber connection," they can visit the abodes of the gods within the Multidimensional Spheres.
- Planar Transit: Awakened individuals gain the ability to see buildings, gates, and magical portals invisible to others. They can choose to shift into a parallel plane to approach these locations and can even bring party members with them through physical touch.
The Other Side and Ancient Spirits
Awakened Lumans can venture to the "other side" of Manam to interact with the Ancient Spirits, who are the first eternal children of Ana.
- The Primordials: These spirits never had physical bodies and thus never experienced death; they exist in a parallel state of "no-time".
- True Sight and True Speech: In the presence of these spirits or living environments, an awakened Luman can gain True Sight (Wisdom DC 15). Furthermore, while they can communicate via Light Language, the discovery of Truename Magic reveals that the world soul (Ana) retains memories of every soul forged within her, allowing awakened beings to invoke and utilize recorded information that transcends physical boundaries.
The Cosmic Actor: Meta-Campaign Integration
A unique aspect of the Manam setting is the realization that players are Cosmic Actors whose current characters are linked to their previous ones.
- Character Memory: An awakened character begins to relate to previous lives lived in other campaigns. For example, a Luman Druid might remember their past life as a human from a separate adventure.
- DM Guidance: The DM facilitates this by allowing players to use information from their other characters without it being considered "meta-gaming". This can manifest as remembered skills, specific terrain knowledge, or even access to certain magical domains.
- Multiversal Recognition: The gods of Manam, particularly those invited from other realms like Moradin, understand this multiversal nature. Because Manam’s Universal Crystal Sphere connects to all other D&D realms (such as the Forgotten Realms), deities like the Forge Father extend their influence to their "children" across multiple worlds and planes. These gods recognize the Cosmic Actor's soul as it moves through various incarnations within the broader D&D multiverse.
